We All Have Heros

Happy Feast of St. James....

Today is the feast day of St. James the Great Apostle... In honor of him we wanted to introduce to you Thomas the Thurible( a member of the Altar Gang).  We all have hero's and Thomas the Thurible looks up to thurible in Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Spain.  It’s the largest in the world standing at 4’6”.  So, he literally looks up to him. In Spanish Santiago means St. James. You can visit Thomas' hero in Santiago, Spain.
In other great news here at Lumen... We had our Film Premier on Saturday at 5 Points Theater. Some of the students, Brian, and Rich worked tirelessly and many long hours editing          The Gardening Man to have it ready for us. We had over 60 people come to the premier. We also premiered last year's film camp movie Super Nerd. Both movies were a hit with the audience and we will be posting both movies soon for your viewing pleasure. After the premier we had a cast party and had a wonderful time together. While sitting around and talking, the students were even coming up with ideas for next year's film camp. Below are some pictures from The Gardening Man premier. Have a blessed week and don't forget to keep Lumen in your prayers. We have under 2 minutes of animation left :) See you on Friday with some Cuban Coffee

Never Let Go

Yes it's Cubano Coffee Day!

We are all aware there is never a dull moment in the Lumen office. Today was no exception.  While we were sipping our Cubano Coffee from our Chinese Tea Cups we were discussing  life issues, the HOT weather, and how to take over the world; Brian becomes philosophical and tells us about his new friend Cricket. True story...
I shall call you Cricket and you will be my little Cricket
"As I got into my car this morning, I saw this little guy on the wind shield and thought 'oh this guys in for a ride.' While merging onto 295 I noticed he was still on and knew for sure he was not going to make it once I hit 70mph. I'm driving at 70mph and notice Cricket bend down even lower to hold onto dear life. I reached my destination for my Divine Appointment at Assumption Catholic Church and my new friend was still on the windshield! He must of known there was greener grass at the Church and was determine to never let go till we arrived."

The week is coming to a close and we have been gearing up for the premier of The Gardening Man. We are also showing last year's movie Super Nerd .  The premier is Saturday July 23 at 1:00pm at 5 Points TheaterAll are welcome to attend and we hope to see you. Have a blessed weekend! ~Lumen Crew

David and Rich Editing
Happy Monday here from the Lumen Office! It's incredibly quiet here at the office, now that Film Camp 2011 is over.  The students worked tirelessly on Saturday to get as much as possible completed before going home.  David and Rich are in the studio today finishing up the movie. There is a little bit left to do in order to have the movie ready for the premier on Saturday July 23rd at 1:00pm at 5 Points Theater.
Let the cleaning begin
The song above describes the events in the studio today. David also helped Nicol get the studio back to ground zero. There wasn't much to clean, because the students did a great job helping to keep the studio from looking like a bomb went off. Below are the before and after pictures of the studio. We hope that all who live in Jacksonville will be able to come to The Gardening Man premier at Saturday. If you have any questions, please email us at info@lumen.tv
NEWS FLASH!
It's finally in! The final number for our Matching Fundraiser program is $44,164.94 ! Thank you for everyone who donated, but most importantly for your prayers. God is Great :)

Ora et labora

Ora et Labora - pray and work.
To start off the day we began with Holy Mass and afterward David Keegan gave an inspiration talk about the beauty in art through the eyes of the Church.   He helped the students recap and digest what they have gained over this week as well as inspiring them with the words of Pope Benedict XVI.  It was the words in a letter addressed to artists in 2009 from this Pope that had the students understand what it truly meant to be an artist - to portray Truth - to portray God.  The students have been editing and working on getting the project accomplished.  They have been working well as a team and as a family during this years film camp.  It has been a quite day here at the office.  Everyone is focused on praying and working together.  The students have learned a lot from this years film camp.

On her feast day, Our Lady of Mount Carmel pour her loving grace upon us today.  We have been praying and working towards getting this film done.  Keeping praying for us as we complete this LAST day of film camp "Actions Speak Louder Thank Words."

Cuban Coffee Friday Revival

Day 7... Cuban Coffee is our Friend!

In the Lumen office, Fridays are known as Cuban Coffee Revival and today Cuban Coffee became our best friend! It truly was a blessing that we had accomplished all of our filming outside, because today was filled with much needed rain.
Lowell's apartment
The students were hard at work in the back room making a make shift tool shed and an apartment. Our back room was transformed into 3 scenes in one day. They also used the Green Screen to be able to film the parody videos that will appear in The Gardening Man. Below are some pictures from today. We also posted some pictures onto our Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/set=a.227337140639237.63304.191530974219854 Become a fan of our page and you will be able to view our pictures.
If you are interested in viewing  The Gardening Man we will have a premier on Saturday July 23rd at 1:00 at 5 Points Theater. You only need money  for the concession stand. You don't want to miss out! Enjoy the photos and celebrate, because it's Friday! TGIF ~ Lumen Crew

Feeling the Heat...

Less than 48 hours...

We will need lots of Cubano Coffee for the next 48 hours to help us accomplish the rest of the in studio recording, editing, and audio. As you can tell Stephen is in need of Cubano Coffee! Though the students are feeling the heat to have all of The Gardening Man completed in under 48 hours, everyone's spirits are still high and the students have come in ready to work. Check back later this afternoon/evening for an update on Day 7...

What you have missed...

Here is a re-cap of the last 5 days while we have been on set!

Day 2: God is the Divine Architect

Carl Fougerousee reading from Genesis(the creation Narrative)
During our morning session,  we were blessed to have Carl start off Day 2. Carl Fougerousse is a professor at SCAD in Savannah. He is currently teaching Foundation studies. Carl opened our minds to see how God is in every detail throughout history in architecture, art, math, and music. He unpacked Genesis(The Creation) and John 1 using architecture, art, and music. The film camp students were able to apply what they learned from Carl to the production of The Gardening Man. The 2nd half of the day was spent story boarding. The students took the script and drew out each scene. Day 2=success!

Day 3: Scene One, Take One, and ACTION!
We are started our morning at the studio and gathered everything we needed to go on location and start filming. It was a very HOT (94 degrees), but beautiful Monday morning. Our first location was at Jones & Hall Nursery(we are incredibly grateful for letting borrow their nursery and plants). Lowell(the main character played by Duke Snow) is a shy and fearful fella. A social worker brings him to his new job(at the nursery) and he learns from his boss what his job entails

Day 4: "Go About Your Frisbee"
Yup it's Florida weather and we filmed on a sunny Tuesday in 90+ degree weather! Today we filmed the scene that makes Lowell known around campus. Megan is vlogging and not paying attention to her surroundings. She accidently bumps into the wheelbarrow, which Lowell his hiding behind. He is scared when Megan bumps into his wheelbarrow and runs away.  While running away he passes through a Frisbee game and gets hit in the chest. As he gets up and scurries away he yells out to the boys "Go about your Frisbee." Megan captures the whole incident on her iPhone. She posts her vlog and it goes viral all over campus! Lowell becomes known as the Frisbee guy...

Day 5: Taming the Water Hose:
With having a productive day of filming on Tuesday(day 4), we had the confidence we needed to accomplish the task at hand... Taming the Water Hose! This was going to be our last day outside filming, so we knew we had a lot to get done. The scene we were focusing on, was Lowell and a group of guys taming his water hose that had taken on a life of it's own! I can't tell you what happens in this scene, because the movie will be ruined! You will have to join us at our Film
premier(TBA)!
Day 6: Finding Redemption in the Arts.
We were able to accomplish all the filming that had to be done outside on Wednesday(day 5).  We started off the camp with Titus Nixon talking to the students about Finding Redemption in the Arts. The question he posed, " Does this(any art form) compromise my relationship with God? He showed the students how important it is in the arts to help lead people to Christ, not away from Him.

It was a great start to the day!  As the day went on, the students began to learn about editing and adding in audio. They also began to film the scenes that needed to be shot inside. The students were grateful to be back in the studio and out of the hot weather. With 2 days left, they are excited to finish filming and seeing the finish product.

And that is what you missed the last 5 days! Oh yeah... Check us out on jacksonville.com! Our local newspaper is running an article about our film camp. You can click the link below to read the article. http://jacksonville.com/news/florida/2011-07-14/story/students-learn-about-filmmaking-morals-catholic-camp-jacksonville We are in the process of adding pictures to our facebook website. Thank you for being patient with us, as it took us a little bit to update our blog. We will post tomorrow, since it is Cuban Coffee Friday!
May God Bless Your Day~ Lumen Crew

And We Are Off

And we are off! Film camp has officially started with a massive shopping trip to Wal-Mart. This picture can speak for itself.

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER:
Though we have started film camp today, it is not too late to sign up and join us for the next 8 days. Below are pictures from today's events. The day was filled with a lot of learning and eating :)  The focus for today was learning about the mechanics of a successful story and visualizing it through story boarding. There is so much to be grateful for when it comes to technology. The 1st session was led by Dr. Williams  via skype. Dr. Stanley  is the author of "THE MORAL PREMISE: Harnessing Virtue and Vice for Box Office Success" released in 2006. He recently was a script consultant for Karate Kid and has worked with Will Smith  on dozen of projectsThe afternoon was filled with Introduction to Story Boarding with John Webber. John is a former Disney animator and now teaches animation at SCAD. We were also joined by Rich Morgan, who hails from St. Augustine. Rich was an animator with Disney for 10 years and is currently doing freelance work. Dr. Williams, John, and Rich are all men of faith and have helped Lumen Entertainment with various projects.
